Lucy Maud Montgomery
June 26, 2024 - One of Canada’s most enduring and endearing cultural figures, L.M. Montgomery is an icon who continues to impart a lasting impression.
This year, the Mint honours her brilliant imagination and exceptional talent with a commemorative $1 circulation coin—a tribute to her life’s work.
Anne of Green Gables is L. M. Montgomery’s most critically-acclaimed and widely-known work. Montgomery achieved lasting fame thanks to her beloved character, Anne Shirley: an outgoing, red-haired orphan with big feelings, a big imagination, and one who loves Prince Edward Island passionately.
Montgomery’s love for her hometown of Cavendish, joyfully captured on the pages of Anne of Green Gables, shines a spotlight on Canada’s smallest province. To this day, hundreds of thousands of people travel from all around the world to experience the island, and its literary landmarks, for themselves.
Both coloured and non-coloured versions are available and in circulation.
